Walter was born in Manchester and in 1891, aged less than one month, was living at 78 Cecil Street, Chorlton on Medlock with father John, a Buyer in Shipping House, mother Edith, one general domestic servant and a professional nurse. Brother Percy, also a Hulmeian, was born in 1895. In 1902 John died and the family moved to 68 Wilbraham Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy to live with Edith's sisters. Walter aged 12 and Percy aged 8 joined School in April 1903.
Walter, aged 20, was working as a clerk with an Insurance Company and Percy, 16, was still at School.
"The Fourth Eleven has been captained by W. Dorrington, and has played 6 matches, won 2 and lost 4. in batting, Dorrington, Till, T. S., and Goodwin J. H., have done well, and the bowling has been shared by Dorrington, Gregory and Hargraves."
Private WALTER DORRINGTON, South Wales Borderers, whose death on service was mentioned in our last number, was in the Royal Insurance Office, Manchester, before joining the forces. He had served for some time before falling a victim to enteric in Mesopotamia.
