Second Officer THOMAS F HOUGH, mercantile marine, was lost at sea on April 6th, after the torpedoing of his ship by a U-boat. His boat was sunk, and as a heavy gale was on, there is little hope of his escape. He entered the School in September 1910, and soon made his mark in football, playing forward for the School Second (1911) and First Eleven (1912). On leaving in the latter year he went to sea.

On the 6th April 1917, 25 miles NW of the Outer Hebrides, S.S. Powhatan was sunk be a torpedo
from U-boat U-66 under the command of Kptlt. Thorwald von Bothmer.
The 36 crew were lost, except for the Master of the Powhatan who was taken prisoner.
