Harold was born in Ashton under Lyne, near Manchester, and in 1901 was living at 14 Queen Street, Ashton with father John, a Flax Merchant, mother Mary, elder sister Winifred and one domestic servant. By 1911 the family had moved to "Arncliffe", Henrietta Street, Ashton and Harold was working as an assistant in his father's business.
Lieutenant H H KNIGHT, Manchester Regiment, who was killed in action on March 27th, was at the School from September, 1902, to December, 1907. He received his commission in November1914 and had served in Gallipoli, Egypt, and France.
